/proc/interrupts is a virtual directory where the kernel lists which external devices (soundcard,scsi-controller,network,mouse,keyboard) are connected to which interrupt-lines of the CPU (Processor). An interrupt is a bell that rings when the CPU shall pay attention immediately to an external device (or vice versa). you can look at them by typing cat /proc/interrupts.
